John Lennon's writing of "Dear Prudence" is a unique chapter in the history of popular music. This song was penned during the Beatles' sojourn in India in 1968, when the band, along with a few friends, including Mia Farrow and her sister Prudence, had retreated to the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to explore transcendental meditation.
The story behind "Dear Prudence" revolves around Prudence Farrow, who was intensely dedicated to her meditation practice during their stay. She had become so engrossed in her pursuit of spiritual enlightenment that she rarely emerged from her quarters. Concerned about her well-being, John Lennon, along with George Harrison and Paul McCartney, decided to write a song to coax her out of her seclusion. Thus, "Dear Prudence" was born.
